What is National Health Insurance?

All international students who reside in Japan for more than 3 months (and who hold a Resident Card) must sign up for the National Health Insurance (NHI) plan.
NHI is important because whenever you receive medical treatment for any illness or injury.
Basically, 70% of the cost will be automatically covered by NHI, so you need to pay only 30% at the hospital/clinic counter.

Please carry your NHI card with you at all times. (You need to apply it after your arrival at the local city hall when you register yourself there.)
If you couldn't find an answer to your question or concern,
