Students from SIT and L'Aquila University make mixed-teams and proposed a novel mechanical device/system for supporting equipment (welfare equipments, labor saving equipments) in production plant applying the concept of universal design. In the program, students first visit institutes and companies involved in the theme and beginning with discovering problems. The final proposal content is to explain the concept, by making proposals including not only function designs, motion simulation and control algorithms, but also energy-saving and price setting, it is possible to make detailed design utilizing the specialty fields of participants. This is a very good opportunity to make the most of the knowledge and experience cultivated in the compulsory subjects at each course so far. 1679899282319 report.pdf

Providing electricity is quite important to sustain modern society. In order to realize high quality electricity reliability, sophisticated generator control is required so that stable frequency and voltage are maintained. This PBL provides opportunity to understand how to control generator with learning control theory. In beginning, students at each university learn control theory using a kit. After understanding the control theory, students try to design generator controller to maintain good power quality. The experiment is performed at SIT so the deep discussion and role assignment is necessary.

Laos, located on the mainland Southeast Asia, is a multi-ethnic country with a nominal population of more than 50 ethnic groups, and until the 1980s Laos had shut down the gate due to civil war and socialization. Recent reforms and opening-up on economy have brought great benefits to the nation, such as the development of national land and infrastructure, but on the other hand, urbanization has progressed and cultural diversity has greatly fluctuated. In addition to knowing the traditional culture of Laos, this workshop aims to promote the sustainable use of traditional houses in the local community by renovating.

Let's make Japan a more environmentally friendly and vibrant city with better mobility?
In this global PBL, students from Shibaura Institute of Technology and the Vienna University of Technology will discuss the topics in urban mobility, aiming to propose a new way of moving and staying in cities from the younger generation's perspective.
The discussion will focus on topics that illustrate the differences between Japan and European countries in urban mobility. For example, "Advantages and disadvantages of public transportation without ticket gates," "Safety and other issues of electric kick scooters," "Why pedestrian space is important," and "The role and usage of urban squares." We will work on these topics that you only really notice when you go out of Japan and visit on-site, bringing back new discoveries and flexible thinking to Japan.

In order to realize the themes, students will solve comprehensive problems
by using concepts and techniques of "systems thinking", "systems methods",
and "systems management". The implementation program of this PBL consists of
 (1) ice break and team formation, (2) theme determination, requirement
analysis and target setting, (3) formulation of evaluation plan and budget plan,
(4) design review, (5) plan activities based on field research and prototype
development, (6) final presentation.
