Urban Environmental Design Laboratory

Exploring the potential of urban environmental design that harnesses nature, history, and culture

Our laboratory goal is to establish standards for the conservation and inheritance of “local resources,” such as historical environments and cultural-ecological landscapes. Furthermore, we aim not only to rediscover their value but also to actively explore ways to incorporate them into environmental design for future generations. As part of this process, we will continue to survey townscapes where historical environments remain intact and cultural-ecological rural landscapes, with the aim of rediscovering local resources. Moreover, going beyond simply redefining their value, we will explore sustainable approaches to environmental design through activities such as producing landscape handbooks and walking tour map tools, as well as revitalizing traditional homes and utilizing vacant properties.
