Micro Biosystem Laboratory

Integrating engineering and biotechnology to regulate biological system

We aim to artificially reconstruct the structure and function of living organisms outside the body to understand complex life phenomena and further apply them to medical use. To achieve this, we are engaged in research that integrates engineering technologies, such as microfabrication techniques, with biotechnologies, such as cell induction from stem cells and imaging techniques.

FOR SOCIETY

When developing new drugs or foods, evaluations have traditionally been conducted using cultured cells and experimental animals. However, differences from living organisms and animal welfare are ongoing challenges. By creating highly functional cultured tissues and cell devices through engineering technologies, we believe we can contribute to various research fields, including medicine and food development.

RESEARCH THEMES

  • Development of cell induction technologies using pluripotent stem cells and small molecules
  • Development of co-culture tissues and devices using microfabrication technologies
