Elucidating the properties of substances by calculator simulations

Our laboratory theoretically elucidates the properties of substances using statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics and aims at explaining various phenomena using theoretical models, which are as simple as possible. After making calculations using pencil and paper, we conduct a numerical analysis using a calculator. We also develop new calculation methods. Our main subject of research is spins, which is a magnetic model. We are particularly interested in phenomena when frustration and randomness occur.

FOR SOCIETY

Our motto is finding knowledge that makes people wiser than yesterday rather than making something that will immediately become useful to people. We also proactively develop physics education methods.

RESEARCH THEMES

  • Research on the phase transition of magnetic spin glasses
  • Estimation of physical quantity by the kernel method
  • Research on the incommensurate order of Ising magnets
  • Applications of Quantum Monte Carlo method
