# Expressing complicated phenomena with simple rules

The technique known as "ultradiscretization" has been developed to digitize the equations that describe natural phenomena while preserving the essential structure of the phenomena. A cellular automaton, one of ultradiscrete system, is a completely discrete model consisting of only 0s and 1s, and can describe many complex phenomena such as traffic congestion and ecosystems. In this laboratory, modeling, simulation, and mathematical analysis using discrete mathematics such as cellular automata are conducted mainly for "flows" such as traffic flows and human flows.
