Cognitive Linguistics & Quantitative Text Analysis Laboratory

This laboratory clarifies the mechanism of human cognition from linguistic data.

Language is a living thing. Languages exist with people and therefore change over time or on a community-by-community basis. Linguistics is the study of generalizing the characteristics of a particular language or between different languages. However, it is not possible to survey each and every speaker (even more so if they are from different time periods!). ). For this reason, analyzing a collection of languages, called a corpus, enables us to identify population trends. This laboratory analyzes comparisons between different communities of Japanese, or between different languages, or historical changes in the same language, using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
