Regional Design Laboratory
Community-based town development and architectural and urban designs
We are researching methodology for town development and building architecture that is based on each community’s climate, by rediscovering regional resources that have been forgotten, (such as cultures, building structures and social characters that are still alive in the community). Students systematically learn landscape development and the regeneration of architecture and regional communities and implement what they have learned. They will visit the sites of town development as part of their research and experience community design through dialogues with local residents and specialists.

Our research results are used by urban planning consultants, non-profit organizations and local governments. Our laboratory’s research is directly connected to practical use in society, which is one of the characteristics that set us apart from many other institutions of architecture.
- Designs in which citizens participate
- Designs for a coexistence of urban cities and environment
- Landscape development lead mainly by citizens
