Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) has been ranked 1201+ in the THE World University Rankings 2022 released on September 2, 2021 by Times Higher Education (THE), a British magazine specializing in higher education. SIT was ranked 25th among all Japanese universities and 4th among private universities for "Research", one of the five evaluation categories. In addition, among universities in Japan, SIT’s score for "International Outlook" was 16th overall and 6th among private universities, while its "Industry Income” score was also 6th among private universities.

Shibaura Institute of Technology's breakthrough: 25th in Japan for “Research” and 16th for “International Outlook” (4th and 6th among private institutions, respectively)

SIT has been included in this ranking every year since the 2017 edition, and its score has increased every year. Especially in the field of “Research”, the number of papers and external research funds have been steadily increasing due to the improvement of its research environment, including the deployment of laboratory equipment in the Techno Plaza. Its score for "Research" ranked 25th in Japan.
Of the other 24 universities, 21 are national universities with superior resources. Among private universities, the university ranked 4th, putting up a good fight against top-ranked universities that also have faculties of medicine.
In terms of "Industry Income," SIT ranked 6th among private universities, showing that its research, which can be implemented in society through industry-academia collaboration activities such as active joint research with companies, is producing results.
SIT is also the only science and engineering university to be ranked for “International Outlook” among the top 10 private universities, most of which are comprehensive universities.

The THE World University Rankings, released annually by THE since 2004, is based on the following five categories: teaching, research, citations, and industry income, and 13 indicators. A record number of 1662 universities from 99 countries and regions are ranked in the 2022 edition, which represents 7% of the world's 23,000 higher education institutions. From Japan, 118 universities were ranked.
