Hotspot Detection Algorithm for Series-Parallel Connected Photovoltaic Configuration

【Presentation content】
The purpose of this research originates from the widespread of the photovoltaic technology (PV) and is to prevent the decrease of generated energy and the risk of fire hazard caused by ‘hotspot’ (the burnt on the PV panel’s surface caused by shading).
My research proposes the new method to detect the hotspot with high accuracy and low cost; by using, the hotspot modeled circuit and the data from the current and voltage of the PV system. The method is successfully tested with different PV panel’s types at various fault scenarios.
The future plan of this research is to develop the proper testing system for expanding the usage of the proposed method. After the confirming the performance, the proposed method can be integrated into the PV system’s converter for detecting the hotspot in the small-scale PV system in order to prevent the decrease of generated energy and fire hazard.
