Shibaura Institute of Technology Social Media Policy
Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) was established by Shiro Arimoto in 1927 based on the founding philosophy of “nurturing engineers who learn from society and contribute to society.” Shiro Arimoto advocated “education in which the various aspects of modern culture are incorporated in the curriculum to help students learn the significance of contributing actively to society.” SIT’s practical approach to education has enabled it to train up engineers with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to support a technology-oriented country. This, together with SIT’s ability to produce outstanding engineers possessed of both a strong sense of ethics and comprehensive knowledge, has underpinned SIT’s long-term contribution to the progress and development of Japan.
With the aim of actively returning the results of their education and research work to society, the members of our university faculty and administration constantly think about ways to contribute to and create partnerships with the community as they strive to create a university that is open to, and co-exists with, the community (Item 5in the Code of Conduct for Members of the Faculty and Administration of Shibaura Institute of Technology).
SIT respects the freedom of all members of the SIT community to engage in speech, communication, and information dissemination at their own personal responsibility and in compliance with the above founding philosophy and code of conduct.
Information released by members of the SIT community (faculty members, administrators, students, and pupils) or related parties (alumni, guarantors, guardians, etc.) via social media (which refers collectively to such media and services as webpages, blogs, profile sites, Mixi, Facebook, LINE, Twitter, and YouTube) in a private capacity clearly does not constitute an official announcement or official view of Shibaura Institute of Technology. All opinions or rebuttals regarding information that a member of the SIT community has released at his or her own personal responsibility should be sent directly to that person.
SIT will take rigorous measures in the event that the information released by a member of the SIT community constitutes a serious violation of laws or regulations even if the information was released at the member’s own personal responsibility.
- This Social Media Policy also applies to (official) social media directly administered by SIT.
